As I read about the lives of Moses, David, Daniel, Job, Elijah, and Paul, one word comes to mind: Survivors. The only way they survived was through their prayers to God. Moses struggled to lead the disobedient children of Israel to the Promise Land. The prophet Elijah suffered from fear, anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem. David, a man whom God called a man after His own heart struggled with lust and adultery. Although these men endured hard times, they knew that praying to God was the only way they could survive.
Here is a list of prayers to help you through your time of struggle.

In the mighty name of Jesus.

AFTER LOSING A FAMILY MEMBER #2
Eternal God,
In this difficult time, my soul is weary with sorrow, give me your strength. Psalm 119:28. Lord, you give power to the faint and to them who have no strength. Isaiah 40:9. My flesh and heart may fail, but God you are the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26. Your grace is sufficient and my power is made perfect in weakness. I delight in weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, loss, and difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong. 2 Corinthians 12:9-10.
Without your joy, I will grieve, but because I have Your joy I have Your strength. Nehemiah 8:10. You are my strength and shield and my heart trusts You. Psalm 28:7. What I am asking You is not hard. You are sovereign Lord, and You made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and outstretched arm. There’s absolutely nothing too hard for You. Jeremiah 32:17. I will sing of your strength and in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge, in the time of trouble and my sorrow. Psalm 59:16.
In my grief journey, I will rejoice and pray without ceasing. In everything I will give thanks for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus. The Lord gives and He takes away, I will bless your name. Job 1:21. I will worship You, I will honor You, I will glorify You, adore You and praise You. I will bless you in my grief and loss. You deserve my praise in the good times and bad. I shall obtain my integrity as long as You help me through this time of bereavement.
In Jesus’ name, I pray.
Amen.

AFTER A BREAKUP
Father God,
Did Your heartache when you heard the people say, “Crucify Him?” If so, You know how my heart is aching right now. At this moment I am feeling lost, worthless, abandoned, and unlovable. This breakup was unexpected and I’m experiencing sadness, depression and this is a heavy burden. Your word tells me to come unto you who are labor and heavy laden and you will me rest. I’m taking this yoke upon you for you are meek and lowly in heart. Your yoke is easy and Your burden is light. Matthew 11:28-30.
Lord, I’m asking You to help me live and demonstrate Your word in Ephesians 4:31. I will let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from me with all malice. I might not see the good in this breakup, but I know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to Your purpose.
God, You know what is best for us and I know this day was coming. You know our prayers before we pray. Matthew 6:8. You know when we get up in the morning and when we go to bed at night. Psalm 139:2-3. Your eyes are everywhere, keeping watch on the wicked and the good. Proverbs 15:3.
I’m happy and comforted knowing You see hear and know everything. I might not agree with this breakup or understand it, I’m asking You Lord to help me to accept Your will and give me the strength to move on.
Amen.

After A Divorce
Dear Jesus,
With tears in my eyes and a wounded heart, please bend my broken heart. I took my wedding vows seriously and divorce was not my decision. I was willing to work things out through counseling but my ex wasn’t willing to seek help. I really loved this man, but apparently, he didn’t love me. When a man loves someone else more than he loves me, I have to accept the rejection and move on. I can only imagine how Leah felt when Jacob loved Rachel more than he loved her. Like Leah, she was in a loveless marriage I know how it feels to be unloved and unattractive.
What is comforting is You do not see outward beauty, but the beauty within our hearts. 1 Samuel 16:7. I am assured that you will be with me on this journey. When I pass through the waters, You will be with me and through the rivers, they shall not overflow me. As I walk through the fire, I shall not be burned. Isaiah 43:2. I am exalted from crying, yet I know weeping may endure for a night, but joy will come in the morning. Psalm 30:5.
Remember the children Heavenly Father because they’re hurting too. There must be a purpose for this painful divorce. It’s possible to bring me closer to God, heal me, redeem my life, or share hope with others who are suffering. Whatever the purpose is,
Lord, help me to be a light into the gloomy places of pain, discomfort, struggle, and divorce.
Amen.

Prayer for God’s Authority before Surgery
Precious Savior,
Today I am going in for surgery. I am committing my life to Your hands because You are above any physician. You pulled a rib out of a man and made a woman, open wombs to barren women, open blind eyes all done without surgery. Those who know Your name put their trust in You, for You, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You. Psalm 9:10.
During my surgery put your healing hand upon me and keep the surgeon’s hand steady as they operate. Bless the surgeon with the eyes to see the problem and place Your hand on their hands for guidance. Let my faith be bigger than my fears. For God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind.
2 Timothy 1:7.
Give me Your peace. You will keep me in perfect peace all whose mind is stayed on You. Isaiah 26:3. Give me a positive mind by thinking about things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, and good reports. Philippians 4:8. Thanking You for the prayers of my pastors and elders for anointing me with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up, and if he has committed sins they shall be forgiven. James 5:14-15.
After the surgery, I shall be healed. In the name of Jesus.
Amen.

PRAYING FOR THOSE IN PAIN
Heavenly Father,
There are many names I’m bringing to the throne this morning. These people are in mental, physical, spiritual, emotional pain and they need You to heal them. You were wounded for our transgressions, bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon You, and by Your stripes, we are healed. Isaiah 53:5.
I know pain, but Father God, I don’t know their pain nor can I feel their pain. Some are suffering from broken hearts, financial struggles, mistakes, and other mistakes, and You are the only one that has the answers to their problems. Only You, my Father know the depth of their pain so that’s why I am at your feet asking You for mighty miracles and healings.
Wipe the tears from their eyes and give them your joy, peace, and comfort.
Your word tells us to let not our hearts be troubled. John 14:1. I’m placing troubled hearts at the altar this morning and Heavenly Surgeon, go in and mend and heal their brokenness. Wash and cleanse the souls and please include me. Bind the spirit of Satan and curse the root of the sickness he’s placed in the bodies, cast it to the pits of hell to be burned in the mighty name of Jesus. As I leave these petitions at Your feet, I will walk away in confidence; knowing that You heard me and You will answer my prayer.
John 14:14 says, If you ask anything in my name, I will do it. Here I am asking you these things in Your name, you will answer. So, I thank You in advance for what You’ve already done.
Amen.

Prayer for Comfort after a Death by Suicide
God of Mercy,
If there’s ever been a time I need You, Lord, I need you now. I have dealt with death of many that I was close to me, but this one is difficult and incomprehensible. It is still surreal but I know You are here for me. I did not know how much I miss him/her when he/she left this earth.
Lord, my wounds are deep and my heart is aching because he/she left without a note or explanation. God! God! How I wish he /she died naturally and not by taking his/her life.
In my time of affliction, comfort me of this extreme loss. Please minister to the indescribable pain that’s tormenting my heart every moment of every day.
Prince of Peace, guard me through this and give me the strength and power to make it through this storm. I’m inviting you to carry this burden; it’s too hard for me to bear. As I extend my hand out to You, Precious Lord, take my hand and lead me on.
Jesus, you know about affliction and sorrow. You were despised and rejected by men; a man of sorrow and acquainted with grief. You bore our griefs and carried our sorrows. Isaiah 53:3-4.
Have mercy Lord for those who are taking their lives because of depression, PTSD, bipolar disorder, and live with thoughts of suicide. I know there is a time for everything and a season. A time to be born, a time to die, weep, laugh, and mourn. Ecclesiastes 3:1-7.
In this season, I am in need of your mercy and grace.
God, I know You are igniting something within me with his/her death and are pushing me into my full potential. This has been a tough year of first and a lot of buffeted memories.
With time and my faith, I know You will carry me through. I am so grateful that You Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble. Psalm 9:9.
I know Thou are with me. You are my rod and staff that are comforting me. I’m depending on Your love to see me through.
Amen.
